BLOKTOPIA — Developer Diaries #30
Hot Topic: Windows PC installer test for M3TASPACES
Developer Diaries aim to give a transparent view to our community on how the build of Bloktopia is progressing. We value your loyalty and passion for our project, and we will be sharing as much information as we can about 1 specific feature — hopefully at the end of each week!
We will continue to work in an agile manner, and will be adapting and optimising our roadmap continuously. That is the nature of building a metaverse. Some things we share here might not ever come to fruition, but our goal will be to set clear expectations and communicate with you all about the upcoming roadmap and priorities.
This weekly Developer Diary update focuses on the recent Windows PC installer test for M3TASPACES, which allows users to download an application directly to their PC instead of using Vagon streaming.
Cloud Rendering and Its Challenges
Our goal has always been to provide users with flexible and convenient options to attend events and explore Bloktopia. Over the past few months, all of our events have leveraged Cloud Rendering technologies to deliver experiences to our users.
Whilst this has allowed us to reach a lot of users quickly and generally delivered successful results, including breaking record attendances consecutively each test, it has also brought with it the challenges of new technologies.
Introducing the Windows Release Version of Bloktopia
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been working on a release version of Bloktopia for Windows! This version will allow users with compatible devices to download and use Bloktopia for events at their own convenience. This is a significant step towards our goal of being online 24/7, running longer events spanning days or even weeks, and improving the user experience by reducing streaming and latency issues!
24-Hour Test and Performance Data Collection
We recently conducted a 24-hour test with a select group of community members. We provided them with access to the early version of the build and allowed them 24 hours inside of M3TASPACES.
As part of the testing, we collected hardware and performance data across a range of devices, from brand-new top-specification machines to 10-year-old basic laptops. This data will help us determine our minimum specifications.

Hardware Tested
GPUs: Intel HD Graphics series (Integrated), NVidia Series 1 GTX, 2 RTX, 3 RTX and 4 RTX, AMD RX 6, R5 mobile series (GPU memory from 1GB — 16GB)
CPUs: Intel Xeon, i3, i5 and i7 series, AMD Ryzen 5, 7 and 9 series
RAM: From 4GB up to 32GB
Performance Data
We also captured performance data from the devices in the form of the average Frames Per Second (FPS) based on each of the two environments we visited as a group.
Lowest spec machines: 10–30 FPS (old laptops)
Mid spec machines: 30–60 FPS
Gaming rig setups: 240–250 FPS
These tests were performed with no adjustment of quality settings. Once these are introduced, users will be able to adjust the quality and performance on their devices.

User Feedback and Next Steps
We collected feedback from the users, with an overwhelming majority in favour of running the application locally on their machine. Users rated the installation and updating process highly, and many were surprised at the visual quality inside the application as it does not compress the image in cloud rendering systems.
This does not mean Cloud Rendering is going away. Its convenience for users who either cannot install Bloktopia or with devices that we currently do not support natively allows us to reach these users. What this does is spread the demand across different delivery mechanisms and allow even more users to enjoy Bloktopia in the future!
We look forward to releasing the full Windows version to the public soon. After this, we will target installations on other platforms. So, watch this space for more updates!
