The Sia Foundation has grant funding available for community contributors! The Grants Program was created to fund research, development, developer tools, and anything else that will support and further our mission of user-owned data while enriching the Sia ecosystem.
Just design a proposal that meets our requirements, submit to our forums, and wait for review by our grants committee. If your grant gets approved, you’re on your way to creating the next great project on the Sia storage network.
Since last month, the Foundation grants committee has received a large number of new grant proposals, totaling eight requests with many coming in after our new grant rules were released.
The new guidelines should create clarity for grantees as well as the committee, with easier ways to get small grants off the ground and better methods to evaluate all grants throughout their life cycle.
We’re especially excited to see small grants flood into the committee for review. Many of the best projects over the years in the Sia ecosystem have started as modest ideas for a feature or tool, and grown into incredible contributions.
Let’s take a look at a selection of recent proposals.
SiaShare is an end-to-end encrypted file sharing service that uses the Sia decentralized storage network to store files. SiaShare was originally worked on as part of a previous grant.
Much of the functionality required to use SiaShare is in place and members of the foundation and the community have indicated that they are using SiaShare successfully. However, not all desired functionality was able to be completed during the timeline of the previous grant.

Notes
Not everything goes according to plan. We were happy to see a new grant submitted to finish up the functionality that wasn’t able to be completed in the first run of SiaShare. This is a very cool project and we’re excited to see the results.
This team wants to develop an online learning platform that also integrates Sia. They currently operate Dapp Mentors Academy, which they want to transition from centralized to decentralized.
We asked them to simplify the proposal and use the updated format.

Notes
We had previously asked this team to slim down their proposal from one that has some highly aggressive marketing and growth goals to one that focuses more on the tech and ensuring the Sia implementation is a good fit for their use-case.
They plan to develop a renterd plugin for Proxmox Backup Server, which is a service dealing with large data sets.
Grant Status
Asked to modify and resubmit
Notes
Feasibility studies help us ascertain whether or not building on Sia is a good idea for a project. This proposal came on the heels of a successful study, with the proposer providing an extensive report to make their case to the committee.
Coming Next
We encourage the community to provide their feedback and ask questions on the Sia Forum! Community contribution and input is the best way to push proposals and projects to the next level.
You can see the list of all proposals here, and our proposal requirements here. See you next month!
