Surviving with Hive — a real life story
How a blockchain community improved real life issues of a shop owner in South America
Decentralized / World, April 13, 2022 — Hive (Hive.io) — one of the first blockchains that enabled content creators since March 2020 to get rewarded for their content — is starting a showcase series to prove how a blockchain community is able to change lives for business owners around the world, especially in countries with failing economies. In this first episode a true story from a mechanic shop owner in Venezuela shows how blockchain technology is able to change life of individuals and to form a better world.
Joseth David, aged 32, based in Venezuela is a car mechanic who opened his business back in 2012. The business did flourish until the country situation changed dramatically. Due to economic and political issues within Venezuela such as high inflation, huge unemployment rate and others his profession and originally well-visited business was not enough to feed his family during the last years. Joseth David — as many of his fellow countrymen — had to come up with new approaches to maintain his shop in order to build the basis of living for his family.
After hearing about the Hive blockchain from a friend he started to create content on the social media part of the chain and realized he can earn some funds by providing valuable content to the community. He published stories around his daily work writing in the Spanish language and was surprised people enjoyed his content which resulted in Hive cryptocurrency rewards.
Joseth David says: “Without the Hive rewards I swapped into my local currency I would have not been able to continue my business at all. My shop was close to bankruptcy, my family suffered as we have not been able to buy meat, this has changed now luckily”.
A community representative of Hive states: “We have been working on the community aspects of the Hive blockchain since several years already. Competing with traditional social media platforms such as Facebook is not easy but only this story motivates us to develop much more into our blockchain”.
“I am now even accepting HBD (pegged Hive currency known as Hive Backed Dollar) as payment for my services and am promoting the blockchain via workshops so also others in my country can benefit from the opportunities this blockchain offers to us,” Joseth David adds.
Being only one of many stories how blockchain can help society and solve real life problem, Hive is working on new opportunities to support its community and development of new features is ongoing.
About Hive:
Hive is a decentralized information-sharing network with an accompanying blockchain-based financial ledger built on the Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) protocol. Hive supports many different types of information-sharing applications. A myriad of dapps, APIs, and front-ends contribute to the accessibility of data on the Hive blockchain. Hive is developed to store vast amounts of content and to make it easily available for time-based monetization. Examples of use cases include social media with monetized rewards for content producers, interactive games, identity management, polling systems, and micro-loans. The performance of the blockchain is designed to scale with the widespread adoption of the currency and platforms in mind. By combining the lightning-fast processing times and fee-less transactions, Hive is positioned to become one of the leading blockchain technologies used by people worldwide.
