Freshly Minted Volume #1: Pop & Sam discuss the rise of mainstream NFTs
On March 25, 2021, creative team Pop Mhan and Sam Ellis will be dropping the first two pieces in a series of ten, exclusively on Portion. The series, titled ‘The Exchange,’ depicts personified forms of the team’s favorite top market cap crypto projects in the form of nifty-NFTs. We chatted with Pop & Sam to learn more about their artistic careers, how they feel about the meteoric rise of NFTs, and why they’re excited for their first NFT drop on portion.io. Sam Ellis is a visual storyteller and purveyor of fine things. Most folks know him for his work as Lead Designer on FX’s hit show Archer or his contributions to the Adventure Time comic series. He has worked on a myriad of projects in the past few decades and currently works for KONAMI. Pop Mhan got his start working under comics grandmaster Jim Lee at Wildstorm Productions back in the late ’90s. After Wildstorm, he went to Marvel Comics to work on titles such as Ghost Rider, Spider-man, and X-Factor and then to DC Comics where he is most known for his run of The Flash, Batgirl, Gears of War, and He-man and the Masters of the Universe. Pop has since branched out to many facets of the art world, creating a card game called RumboBots and also producing an Assassin’s Creed animated short with F. We would like to announce that we have hired 4 new developers who are actively aiding the finalization of our V3 platform. We have heard feedback from the community that our actual dApp doesn’t match the beauty of the Portion.io website. Not only do we hear you, but we actively agree. Portion V2 was the result of testing the efficiency of our code; realizing what functionality worked well and what did not. V3 will integrate the beautification of the platform up to the Portion standard, and we believe that it will help us gain mainstream adoption and make it easier for the less technically inclined to navigate! V3 is expected to drop in the next couple months! As for sales, Marvel and DC artists have been prospering on the platform, and our partnership with Essential Sequential is flourishing. One of our primary concerns is to continuously establish ourselves as the preeminent platform for not only protecting the sales of artists (Portion takes 0% commission) by providing a metaphysical space for many of the most talented creators in the world to call home. From our recent announcement that we had partnered with Marvel Artists, A unique Spiderman drawing by Marvel comics artist Adam Kubert selling for 12.75 Ether (ETH) ($25,000), Marvel works sold out the moment they were listed for sale, totaling over $100,000 for the first 10 pieces. Instead of celebrating, the team worked through the nights on this momentum and has managed to finalize multiple partnerships that we believe will prove to be impactful for our blossoming community of Artists and Creators. Aside from these ‘blue chip’ sales, we have had hundreds of new artists join our community this week, and their belief in our platform is what we have been dreaming about since our v1 went live in 2018. There has been a lot of noise in the blockchain space lately, and we hope that everybody is doing their own research before making any decisions. In lieu of talking about the macros across the NFT and digital asset spaces, we will take this moment to discuss Portion’s development and organizational progress. Firstly, we’d like the community to know that we do hear your voices and continuously make adjustments based on constructive input and feedback. A Maturing Ecosystem
When growing a project over several years, it’s crucial that one remains mindful that patience and perseverance are often the determining factors for success. The past several years of watering our project has started to lead to an organic blossoming of growth over the last several weeks, and it has only just begun. We would like to announce that yet another new strategic partnership has been finalized with none other than Bitrue. Bitrue has mentioned us here, and the Portion team is excited to spread awareness of the platform and governance token across a wider range of potential artists and collectors amongst key foreign markets. Bitrue is a Singapore-based company, and research shows that the arts have been growing while collectors are flourishing across Singapore and Asia. Furthermore, more partnerships will be announced over the coming months, and Portion strongly believes that these connections will enable the platform to rapidly grow in adoption. A campaign to onboard artists has started, and we have successfully tapped into our network to onboard dozens of new creators onto the platform. It is safe to say that everyone is looking forward to a more positive year, and the Portion.io team is doing all that they can to contribute to that. It has truly been an exciting few weeks in crypto, and the team feels the electricity in the air. With the discussion surrounding the industry expanding across the board, it seems everyone and even their grandmothers are talking about Crypto. It’s often easy to lose your grounding in the energy so, as always, make sure to do your own research on every project you become involved with. The liquidity mining partnership with Saffron.finance continues to be a success. Over the past 2 weeks, individuals directly participated for 25 SFI and 1,000,000 PRT on Portion’s first liquidity tranche pairing. PRT rewards were sent out in the linked transaction. The Saffron team contributed the equivalent of $10,000 at the time of writing for liquidity rewards, and the Portion team contributed nearly $20,000 to the pair at the time of writing. It should be noted that the Portion team has not yet started its marketing campaign for onboarding users to the platform. The Portion Gallery: Reimagined
Since 2016, Portion.io has been evangelizing the concept of tokenizing digital art and collectibles. We held the notion of enabling digital scarcity passionately, and after launching the online virtual gallery and auction house in 2018, we continued developing the platform through the ‘Crypto Winter’. The Portion team has never launched an ICO, and funding was secured from private investors before the launch of our V1 marketplace. With the subsequent rise of Decentralized Finance (DeFi), came exciting developments that enabled the team to push the boundaries of the platform. The interactions between Erc-721’s and IPFS, in conjunction with the Portion governance token , combined with an unparalleled boom to the DeFi space, has led us to where we are now: Less than a week away from our launch of the Portion V2 Marketplace.
